The marriage of polo-loving gentleman and scion of the Ibrahim Babangida dynasty, Mohammed, to his first love Umma has crashed. Umma is the lovely daughter of Amb. Aminu Wali, Nigeria’s Ambassador to China. Though Mohammed and his friends are keeping the news close to their chests, it is already a common topic of discourse in high society circles.
We gathered that Mohammed is
especially sad and shocked about how things degenerated to the point of
separation between them. But he is taking solace in the fact that nothing
happens without the imprimatur of the Almighty. What is said to be causing the
easy-going son of Nigeria’s former military president sleepless nights and sour
days is the fact that Umma was the first woman he ever fell in love with.
Though he would later get
married to Rahama Indumi, daughter of billionaire businessman Mohammed Indumi,
he didn’t stop thinking of Umma and what life would be like as her husband.
Four years into his marriage to Rahama, Mohammed had announced to the world his
decision to take a second wife. And trust the Babangidas whose wealth and vast
contacts have earned them a prime place among the world’s aristocrats; they
stopped at nothing to make the marriage a grand affair. Mohammed is not just
any son; he is the heir apparent to the Babangida dynasty. With Ivy League
education, impressive strides in the corporate world, and an eye on the
governorship seat of their native Niger State, his parents knew if he decided
on a second wife, then, that was what he wanted. They gave him all their
support. Alas, today, that marriage has crashed. Mohammed is now back into the
arms of Rahama, while Umma is bracing up for life after Mohammed.
