Expectedly, the US, through Secretary of State, John Kerry has said that the US is deeply concerned. He further said
"Beyond even prohibiting same sex marriage, this law dangerously restricts freedom of assembly ... and expression for all Nigerians," he said in a statement.
"It is inconsistent with Nigeria's international legal obligations and undermines ... democratic reforms and human rights protections."
Today, Canadian Ambassador issued a statement in Abuja also expressing deep concerns as confirmed by NigeriaInfo FM.
An overwhelming number of Nigerians are in support of the President on this one but there are a few dissenting voices who have gone online to express their reservations.
As at today, only South Africa have passed law tolerating same-sex relationships and unions. Most African countries are anti-gay. Public reactions have been strongest in the Eastern African countries with some resulting in burning, maiming, threats and death of suspected gay people.
The Western countries have threatened to withdraw aid from poor countries which do not support gay rights,
From the reactions coming from African countries, it appears they don't care about aid given with condition. they are willing to look in the direction of China where the Western countries come short... The game is on!
